We will be travelling from
Carnegie to
Well 5 via
Granite Peaks Station next month and wondered what is the best road for us to take.
We had planned to head for Glenayle Station and then head south to
Granite Peaks but on some maps there is another road that leaves from near Wongawol Station and heads north west to
Granite Peaks.
If anyone has any information or updates on these roads we would greatly appreciate it.
All the best
Viv

Hi Viv,
I haven't heard of the short-cut road you have mentioned.
However I have travelled the complete
Carnegie-Glenayle Road and
Wiluna-Glenayle Road two years ago and can confirm it is a very good track, some sections much better than the road to
Carnegie, Wongawol Road. Here's a picture, which shows the section of the road near the Glenayle turnoff.

Hi Viv
None of my maps show a route through Wongawol (but there probably is).
We will be in
Wiluna July 21 or 22 after coming across the Gunbarrel from Alice.
We will refuel in
Wiluna and go back out and head north to
Granite Peak and on to
well 5 because we are towing.
I assume that you are doing something similar from
well 5 up the CSR.
Regards
Stan

Hello Stan,
We're heading from Uluru across the Gunbarrel Aug 3rd and then up the Canning from
Well 5 and yes we're towing as
well.
You'll be a couple of weeks in front of us. I hope you have a good trip.
The road from Wongawol shows up on mapsource but like you, I can't find it on any of my other maps. I thought someone here might know if it was a viable option but seems most likely its not...that's if it still exists.
All the best
Viv
