Greetings guys -- ran a few keywords in the find -- nothing comes up - though i remember maybe 1 year ago this may have been discussed .... anyway

My nissan has been playing up --- 1 st gear - runs through the revs fine past turbo kick in point --- upto to 3k rpm easy --- 2nd 2 k rpm struggles at Turbo

3rd -- does not make turbo easy -- has to wind up slowly without putting foot to much into it .... fuel starvation ......

I check the little inline filter i have after the main z332 fuel filter ( its a sight glass type ) and can see fuel intermittently going in and through -- not even filling the glass when running .... push the Prime button a number of times - can hear a air sucking sound ..... - take fuel inlet to filter block off -- pump primer -- hardly no suction at all ( to none ) so its leaking air / sucking air

put inlet fuel line direct to my inline filter - ( bypass main filter ) took for a run -- fully loaded each gear -- runs perfect ......

Now that i have worked out the process of elimination ( may help others in the future ) My question is - is this an after market part - can i get from repco/arb or other such places or is this nissan specific ?

thanks

Boc

Boc,

So let me check what you have deduced? You now believe the priming unit that the original filter mounts on, is stuffed?

If so, there may be a kit you can purchase to replace O rings etc and get it back up to spec.

However, I'd be inclined to check that it is definitely buggared before proceeding. Check that the filter is not blocked (by installing a new filter) and that the rubber hoses are not damaged/split etc.

I have actually replaced my main filter housing with a CAV filter which has it's own plunger/primer, similar to the original. There is nothing wrong with my original filter housing, it's just that the CAV filters are much cheaper and readily available in remote locations. I actually have an extra CAV filter housing fitted to my Patrol too, but it doesn't have a primer. I also have fitted an electric lift pump to push the fuel from the tank up through these 2 filters (as well as a Morrison De-Bug unit....cos I love clean diesel).

If you are interested, I'd be willing to sell my original Nissan filter housing to you for , say, $100- plus postage...... (just a thought; I'm not trying to tout for a sale here...hahaha)

Cheers

Sorry, forgot to mention............... there is also a possibility that the fact that you have 2 filters in line, the injector pump might be struggling to suck the fuel through the extra resistence that the extra filter creates.

If so, you may just need to fit a Facet pump or similar electric assistance pump.

HI - thanks for your rply --- should have mentioned that i put a brand new filter on this morning as this was my first impression ( blocked filter ) when i emptied the contents of the old filter out ( after a GOOD shake to stir it all up ) the diesel came out clean .... replaced anyway ...

I am thinking of going the aftermarket housing-pump now --- rycor i think there named -- used to use them years ago

just going to give nissan a ring to see if they need me give my left arm for a replacement unit before i decide

well rang nissan ---- $385 JUST for the top housing -- a quick look on ebay shows 10 micron filters COMPLETE with water bowl ( clear ) and housing with priming pump, it does not have provision for the water switch but i can live with that as a visual inspection is easily done ,..

ebay filter link

Might be the way i go ---

i would check the flow rate before buying.
Some diesels suck much more diesel than they need to keep the injector pump cool and then recycle it back to the tank
My 1HZ pulls through up to 46 litres and hour according to the FSM so I imagine a Patrol would be much the same.
I have a Delphi 296 with primer and its borderline on the flow rate

2 steps ahead of you -- its 227 l per hour -- i have also emailed the guy asking if this is suitable for Nissan Patrol 4.2's - he sells a lot of diesel stuff mainly for toymotas and Nissan ... so should know ....

thanks for your reply
