gday all

just had a call from the Borgy's, they are at Cairns at the moment and having trouble with their sub tank. Dave said it took him 10 minutes to put in 5 ltrs of deisel.he said the breather tube is clear and unblocked but cant see why the fuel wont go in. the fuel just keeps running back up the filler tube.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why he cant fill his tank?

I will give him a call back if anyone can shed some light on this, cheers.

sorry, but other than the breather tube still being the problem, I can't shed any light on the problem for you. Only thing I can think of is: the breather tube is partially compressed somewhere, therefore restricting flow of air.

If its a 100ser croozer mine is like that. Can put about 80 litres in then its as slow as spits and coughs and takes ages to put the rest in.
Is the same for both tanks

Seems to be that the breathers run together and dont let the tanks vent properly.
Have been going to ask a serviceman about it at next service

Also, some of those tanks only like a slow fill rate. If you try and fill from a high flow rate truck bowser the diesel will foam up and blow the fuel out. You can try filling very slowly or move over to the main forecourt and use the slower filling pump.

How old is your Cruiser?
I have an '05 poverty pack with STD tanks and never had a problem with using hi-flow pumps, I have heard of older 100's having similar problems with filling and maybe there was a suttle change when the updated 100's came out in '05.

Mine's November "05 (updated mod).
I don't know if they changed anything or not, But Mine can take whatever the bowser can give to either tank.
Maybe worth mentioning at next service.

Mine is a Nov06 100 Series Cruiser and sometimes does as yours Graham H. Seems to be worse on hot days after travelling for 3 or 4 hundred kls.
Gets very frustrating when sevos are busy and people waiting.
The vehicle i had previous was a 4.2 Patrol and it was the same but had been fitted with a long range tank. I put it down to a fairly sharp bend in the rubber filler hose.

I can put about 75 litres in the main tank then it foams up and gets an airblock and coughs it all up then takes a bit more and does it again
Same with the sub
If I dribble it in with liquid only and no foam its ok but takes for ever.

Seems that its not letting the air out fast enough.

Will talk to Toyota when I get back to civilisation.

Tell him the Sub Tank is full and he is having an Old Timers moment and should be filling the Main Tank LOL

Cheers Kev

Did you ask him if it was already full?

Hello Mark, I had a 1983 Landrover LWB and it took twenty minutes to fill the tank (diesel), we found the breather hose had a downward loop below the top of the tank that filled with diesel and created a liquid lock. Re-routed the hose and no more problems.
Cheers
