In a few weeks time we are heading to the Goldfields and beyond for a holiday. Can anyone recommend the best place to stay near or in Kalgoorlie for a couple of days so we can check out the area.We will be towing a 6m caravan behind a Nissan Patrol.after Kalgoorlie we will head up towards Leonora and then work our way accross to Sandstone and then up to Newman and accross to the coast to 80Mile beach for a few days.Any comments on this trip would be great.

as usual bush camping is safer than being in town for the trip to leonora i would recomend partially doing the golden quest discovery trail which will bring you out at Leonora with dirt most of the way from broad arrow with a quick side trip to lake ballard to see the gormly statues

Dennis there are some great camp sites north and north-west of Kal.

On the Mt Jackson Rd out of Bullfinch is Trough Well. What a great place. Look it up in Places on EO. Beautiful stonework in the water trough, done by the early bullock drivers to the goldfields.

Driving north on MJ Rd you swing around east and come out at Menzies.

Just before that, a little south of the intersection of MJ Rd and the road coming directly north out of Coolgardie is Ularring Rock. Another great spot but a little more well known now. Giles placed a cairn of stones there and had a bit of a blue with the locals.

North of Menzies is Kookynie and Niagara Dam. Both well known and well used but beaut spots. Niagara dam is a miniature of Mundaring Weir. There is also a dump point there, handy.

Have fun. I'm jealous. I love the goldfields.

Dennis

Can definitely second Niagara dam. We stayed there many times when we lived in WA and its a great area to camp at. If you are going to stay there take your yabbie traps also as there are some good yabbies to be had in the dam.

Cheers
