We visited the Lismore NRMA 4wd caravan
camping & marine show today and although wet and muddy it was a good outing and glad to see many local suppliers on show. It was also good to see all the 4wd's from most manufacturers under one roof.
I did notice that many of the camper trailer manufacturers are starting to include some basic 12V wiring, lights, batteries and chargers in their models. On this note some of these models are fitted with large 40A smart chargers and only have 1x 80 or 100 amp deep cycle battery fitted. This large 40A charger is more suited to battery banks of 300 amp and higher and may damage smaller batteries. The 40A charger also increases the cost of these camper trailers, I recommend when you order your new camper to liaise with the manufacturer as to the size of your battery and suitable charger.
Some campers although fitted with good sized solar panels have very thin twin core between the panels and the battery, again I recommend that you request suitable cable be fitted to the panels.

Hi Barnray
Perhaps next time, I did have my ABR-SIDEWINDER cap on so it was easy to spot me.

Derek - I was once told that the charger should be approximately one tenth of the size of the battery . Is this in line with your thoughts?

Yes that is a good base line to work on.
You can increase it to around 20% if you wish, 30 - 40% like the examples I saw today is too high.

Yep.....10 to 25% of capacity is a good size...
Mine has a 10A charger and 210a/h of batts...and although it isn't the ideal size...it just takes longer
