Peter i have a 99 GXL on a trip to Innaminca etc dust came in the rear door. SCi Fleet toyota just replaced the rear door seal when i mentioned it and its ok now. I also have a rear dust deflector (Toyota) and have found it to be very effective especially keeping dust off the rear window.
Hope it helps regards Ray

Ray, Thnx for your reply, was the rear door found to be faulty? Did you notice dust comes in through the rear vents in the cargo bay?

While I know it is impossible to stop the dust, having done outback trips in my GLS Pajero, the Prado seems to suck it in even on relatively short journey's. Of course the air is always on recirc and the windows are always shut.
Regards, Peter.

Try running a smear of vaseline around all door and window rubbers.
Tape over any ducts and turn them off.
Set your air con to recirculate (and choke after 1/2 an hour)
Yes, dust. Welcome to the outback!

you must have the air on fresh as this will preasurise the inside of the cab making it harder for dust to get in, you can change to recirc when following someone or passing someone in opposite direction, but get the seals checked and use vaseline or silicone spray

Am about to take delivery of my 3rd Prado work vehicle. I have travelled many tens of thousands of K's on NT bush roads & have had very little trouble with dust ingress. I have the air on fresh except when behind a road train. Hope this helps.
