Ron it's a couple of years since we went thru that way, dirt roads can change day to day let alone yr to yr, but the road is/was formed gravel road, a little corrugated as you get closer to Arkaroola, overall it was a good road, not at all that stoney, (just small gravel stones) or corrugated, but then again we are used to caravanning on dirt roads.

G'day Ron.

We went through there about 8 weeks ago in the reverse direction and found it to be quite reasonable. As Graham noted above, it's more corrugated near Arkaroola.

You don't say if your van is 'off-road' or not, but I'd suggest that even a 'normal' van should have no problems if you drive according to the conditions.

Make sure you call in and have a Quandong pie at the Copley Bakery!

Have a great time - it's a beautiful part of the country.

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks Graham & Ann also Chris & Sue for your information about road conditions from Copley to Arkaroola. I forgot to mention that my caravan is not an offroad van.

Ron
just returned from Oodnadatta track yesterday. travelled from Arkaroola toCopley on the 2nd of July - track was absolutely excellent - was like a dirt highway. But who knows what it will be in another month? watch http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/quicklinks/northern_roads/area1.asp
for the road condition
It's been green (open - no warnings)for ages.

have a great trip
