Hi all,
Just a quick feedback on the
Oodnadatta Track and
Arckaringa Hills Road etc for last week.
We had a great trip from
Adelaide to Uluru/The Olgas via
Marree & the Ood Track. Then to
Alice Springs and back home via the Stuart hwy.
The track was in great condition with no damage to speak off other than a bit rutted above
William creek. Rocks the size of Avocados. I had no tyre problems at all though including Kempe Road & The
Arckaringa Hills track.
We used our Honda CRV with about 120 odd Kgs of stuff in the back including a full fridge & two kids. Towed a 6X4 on 8 plies with about 175-200Kgs of equip. I'm convinced that running at a max of 80km/h with 24PSI in the car tyres helped.
Also, the trailer stone guard and rear mounted spare saved my back window. I found the egg sized rock caught behind my spare when I got home.
The
lookout over Lake Eyre South was a good spot to see a bit of salt albeit a bit windy.
Coward Springs was packed and we had to
camp in the car
park. Still great though. Camels noisy at night and make sure you collect some firewood on the run into the
camp ground before the
park grid.
William Creek was flat out with flights & fuel queues as was
Marree.
Disappointed with the appearance of
Oodnadatta town. A bit of an eyesore main street.
Arckaringa Station in
the Painted Desert is a must. A great place to stop. Campfire, hot showers and great station owners. No hassles A+.
Uluru,
Alice Springs,
West MacDonnell Ranges all great.
Ellery
Creek Big Hole & Ormiston Gorge are unmissable and hope to
camp at one of those spots next time.
Michael.

Thanks for the report.
Going up that way later in the year in the Forester and have been wondering how it'd cope on the Ood. track.
Will be taking a CT which has a stone guard but it sounds like window protection is a good idea.

Hi Sigmund,
I guess the track changes week by week but it shouldnt be problem. I'm no big time off roader but reckon it would need a lot of rain to change it in a big way which looks slim chance. The only real issue i guess atm is the shear amount of people on it = big stone damage. Everyone was pretty good though with slowing down a bit but i still managed to get the windscreen trashed.
There were plenty of soft roaders mixing it wth the very common diesel Prados and 200 series LCs.
cheers
Michael.

Hi Michael,
Sounds like you had an excellent tour. My family have been to quite a few of those
places, they are amazing aren't they and you would have come with some spectacular photos to keep.
