Hi ExplorOz
Our friends have mentioned about going to
Arkaroola in the
Flinders Ranges.
So we would like to go too.
But one of our other friends Wife is a bit concerned about No Emergency
Services around - for the just in case times.
On a map we have seen a symbol of a Plane at
Balcanoona.
Is there an airfield or is it not an airfield for the public?
Are there any Public Hospitals in the area, if yes which township are they located in?
Does
Arkaroola have any Emergency
Services or a Doctor of some sort located there?
Hopefully someone can help us out, so we can give this person some info to say all will be OK.
Ta Mark

There is an
airstrip not far from
Arkaroola, and it is also not very far from
Leigh Creek.
Unless the individual is suffering a reasonably serious medical condition, or phobia, I don't see a real problem. You could drive a Barina to Arkarola.

Hi Mark
The nearest hospital to
Arkaroola is
Leigh Creek, or a long way further south at
Hawker. As for the RFDS, you can check the internet for there bases, the closest being
Port Augusta,
Adelaide or
Broken Hill.
This is a good ask from you, as most city people expect everything at there finger tips and help is just around the corner. If you are unsure of your health, just think of the people that live out there, year in and out.
Cheers
Stephen

The
Flinders Ranges are covered by Pt
Augusta RFDS.
Most of the stations/homesteads in the area would have a medical kit from the RFDS and would also be able to contact them for advice. These medical kits are extensive and those who have them know how to use them. They offer a very good interim measure in an emergency.
I guess your right Stephen it is a good question. The first thought I had was is the person asking the question genuinely sick and therefore concerned or are they looking for reasons not to go.

Hi Mark,
This sounds more to me like someone doesn't actually want to go!
The other question to ask her is "exactly how many times in the last 10 years have you been to the local hospital emergency?"
The people in these areas know how to perform very effective emergency
first aid and know exactly how to get emergency help through the RFDS very quickly.
This is actually a major sympton of something very sad enveloping this country, the cotton wool society.
People are getting far to wired in to the doom and gloom, we are all coming to a tragic end that the modern media loves to portray.
Get out there and enjoy life, you only get one go. It's not as if all this cotton wool is going to get you out of this lifetime alive!

Arkaroola does have a RFDS medical chest and can also contact RFDS if required.
