Taking a rented 4.2L diesel landcruiser ute across the simpson in support of 3 dirt bikes. it'll be
well loaded.
What fuel consumption should I expect?
Cheers
Monty!

If its a factory turbo diesel, maybe 15-16 l/100k between
Oodnadatta and
Birdsville, if you drive it easy and use low pressures. If you're chasing the bikes, you'll use more!
A normally aspirated diesel will use a bit more - maybe 16-17 l/100.
The standard 180 litre tanks will be fine.
In various east-west crossings, I've used between 94 litres and 110 litres (factory TD).

Trek notes says 96 litres for a 6 cyl diesel which is much the same as Phil's figures.
I think the bikes will out pace you, and if you try to keep up, the consumption will skyrocket
