Well, we've arrived in
Kununurra after 6 weeks on the road and still 6 more to come. Its great to be back here and tempting to look for a permanant job...again.Will see.
We had a good run coming up, with only a broken fan blade(no damage to radiator thank goodness) to report.Ripped off a mud flap or two crossing the humbert river in
Gregory NP but soon had them back on.
Road conditions have been great with the only real bad section being between Boroloola and
the junction to go nth or back to
Cape crawford. It was a 50km shocker, bulldust 2ft deep, 50mts long and rough as guts.
Stayed at Lorella springs for three days, great spot and
well worth the drive in.Hot spring to relax in and hundreds of kms of station tracks to drive on.Plus plenty of fishing to be had too. While around here, dont fuel up at
Cape Crawford, go onto Boroloola if you can make it.CC was .55cpl dearer.
In six weeks on the road, we have sampled only 3 caravan parks mainly because we wanted to stay in the area for a few days, the rest NP's, stations or
bush camps.
Bush camps are by far the best, most enjoyable spots.
Have spotted and talked to a few Exploroz members out and about and seen quite a few stickers on various things.
The biggest highlight so far this trip would be Coongie Lakes, magnificant. If your in the area of
Innamincka, go out for sure but also take your trailer/caravan and stay there. We didnt and regret it.Truely fantastic spot.
Low point was one of our boys trod on a catfish(which stung/barbed him) at Adels grove and had to be carted off to Mt Isa by RFDS.Nasty things.Made a long day to drive down and get him and return to Adels Grove. But all ended
well.A warning to all going on to King Fisher
camp from Adels grove, just as you pass
Lawn Hill station(which is being cleared of cattle and handed back to aboriginals ATM) there is a
creek crossing that looks shallow, it isnt and would drown any small 4wd or cause dramas without a
snorkel. We have a decent lift on our cruiser and front end dissapeared nicely under
water.I was praying that my new fan hadnt eaten the radiator.BTW, any 100?/105 series cruiser owner who needs to replace the fan, use one out of a 80 series T/D model as this fan has differant curves and dosnt pull forward into the radiator like the std ones do.They are a bolt on fit, no mods. needed.Pt no.16361-17010, they have the yellow dot on a blade to.Cost $250 but can usually wrangle them down abit.
I have never seen Kimberly Land CP so full in 5 visits and am guessing all other parks in town are full to.Still plenty of people out and about in our black times with 50% looking like they are in new rigs.
Speaking of new rigs, saw a new Cruiser troopy (not a hire one) yesterday that had been on its lid, the front windscreen was smashed, the roof all buckled and side window frames bulging out(glass intact) but they were still driving it and continuing on.Maybe the new vehicles arnt so soft.
Will do a full update in 6 weeks once back to our other home.......
