Back on December 1st 2004 'Andrew' posted some details (now archived) about the Patrol that was the first motor vehicle to cross the
Simpson Desert (1962) - driven by Reg Sprigg with his family on board. I saw it in the junk yard 2 years ago and recently went back to make further inquiries about it but was told by the elderly and rather vague gentleman that it went to 'someone' a few months ago. Does anyone know of its current whereabouts? And 'Andrew', if you are reading this could you please let me know if you have any more info on the Patrol, especially anything that may help confirm its identity. 'GO_OFFROAD' contributed that a member actually had this vehicle. Perhaps you can help, too if you're still around, G_O. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks jdwynn. I think he's in the Simpson at the moment but I'll try him again later. Cheers.

Thanks for that, RobA - good news. I have been concerned for the future of this vehicle. Do you know this person? Would it be possible for me to contact them, or them to contact me. I'm not sure how details could be given off this
forum.

Further to my earlier inquiry, if anyone, and I'm thinking of RobA in particular, wishes to pass on information to me - away from this
forum - about the the ex Reg Sprigg Patrol I can be contacted by email: artymcc@hotmail.com
It is a matter of some importance to track down this historic vehicle and further assistance would be most appreciated. Cheers and thanks.

I'm half way thru reading the book ' DUNE is a four letter word' by Griselda Sprigg.
Well worth the read. About their Simpson crossing and other treks.
Also, I notice a strange looking shorty Land Rover in a shed on the way into
Arkaroola. Had a strangely modified boneet. Noticed it there about 3 years ago, and agian just last week??

Thank you. 'Dune' is a great read indeed. I was also curious about the Land Rover and inquired about it: it's not of any real significance. I was at
Arkaroola (again!) about 4 weeks ago - fabulous place. Cheers.

I certainly hope that Reg's car gets restored and put on show at
Arkaroola Village for all to see.
I believe that Land Rover on the way to
Arkaroola is destined to be restored as
well, but just hasn't been gotten around to yet!
'Dune is a four letter word" is a very good bokk, but if you want to know more of the technical and scientific works of Reg Sprigg and his family, then "Rock Star" is also an excellent read if gives you a very good insight into this amazing man - and his amazing family.

Thanks Mark B1, we have both those books at home, also 'Geology is Fun' by Reg Sprigg - most enlightening and entertaining. Cheers.

Robbie the owner of the Nissan is on
Cape York at the moment and wandering for the next month. Hit me with a reminder in around four weeks when he should be back and I will ensure I talk to him about the vehicle and your interest. We are intent on restoring the vehicle to its original condition given its historical context and are drawing on the expertise and input from the national motor museum to ensure the restoration is done in a way that respects the vehicle and its history
With regard the LandRover at
Arkaroola it has a broad history. It was part of the original oil exploration company and has travelled the Simpson as
well. The modified bonnet was to allow for an engine conversion which was de-rigeur for hard working 4WD of the period.
I can assure you the vehicle remains in safe hands in
Adelaide and will not be going too far for quite some time
Regards
RobA
