No I am not selling the MU's and buying a Nissan hahahaha.......but a mate has a na GQ and is thinking of putting a turbo and exhaust on it.....he has looked on the Patrol
forum but is getting a little confused.. So I thought I would ask all my learned friends here. If you have done this, have you had it on a dyno as
well?
Any feed back will be most helpful.

Hi Bruce,
I put a turbo on my GQ about 3 1/2 years ago..... I did have it on a dyno back then but can't remember the figures. It does have heaps more grunt, I did it purely to enable the GQ to pull our trailer with less effort. I have had mates with n/a's keep up on the highway, (Not towing) the difference is that they're revving it hard and I'm cruising.
I bought the kit from Turbo Glide Systems in Russellvale
Web Site HERE it came with a 2 1/2 in exhaust as opposed to the 3", but still is a great improvement.... brings the 4.2 to life!
Cheers
Brian

Hi Bruce
I put a Turbo in my GQ last year for the same reason I had it done at 4wd systems in
Adelaide they checked out the motor did all the tests I think from memory they gave it about 80% boost and a 3" exhaust now I can sit on the speed limit all day towing the camper what I did before I had the turbo fitted was I had the injectors and injector pump done and the only thing I should have done was to do it all years ago

I hope what he is towing is a flat deck as I doubt the camper would hold him back for long as it would soon get lighter.
Isumu -Rod from Rods Coutry
Camping a 4.2 patrol Turbo with a 3" and it went like a V8 but he went to an 8M trailer with extra load and upgraded to an F250 on gas which he had tuned again at the Maitland NSW 4x4 show by Derek Watkins of Gas Tech and Derek made the comment that it was the strongest and fastest F250 he had driven.
I might add that towing a 24ft trailer up mount Ouzley
Wollongong with the Patrol it was no match for the 3.1 MU pulling a 24Ft trailer I had to pass him half way up as he was holding me back.(Ha Ha)
His trailer was full
mine was was empty I wasnt going to say that but I didnt want the Patrol Guys in tears.

My mates GQ has only 170Ks on it so by putting a turbo and exhaust on he say s it only owes him about $15k so its
well worth it.
Anyway talking about our MUs, I think I am going to have to put the MTZs back on....Iam getting her all side ways with the Cooper STs on hahahaha, I let a mate, who has a 2.8 stock MU, have a drive of
mine and going up this
hill in 5th and still increasing speed at 80k, he then took his and was lucky to get up it in 3rd. hehehehe
