I am a licensed HAM living in Europe and visiting Australia regularly, travelling
mainly in the bush. We use an old CODAN (X2 with 10 fixed frequencies) for
communication with VKS.
I have found PSK mail on the internet which also provides APRS which would
allow us to stay in contact with our friends in Australia and family back home
directly..
My questions are:
- how reliable are the PSK Mail servers VK2ETA-1 and VK2ZSZ-1 and what
program is to be used for the protocol PSK125 which seems to be different
from the one (PSK250) used in Europe and the US.
- is it legal to reprogram the CODAN X2 EPROM for 10148.50 kHz, the
frequency of the PSK mailserver (a frequency accessible for HAMs) and to
connect a modem.
- are there more appropriate HAM forums in Australia for my questions above
Thanks for your help
Andy

Hi. Not sure if they will be what you are looking for. If you type into google "Ham Radio Forum" ( Australia) Quite a few listings come up. May be the info you require. Regards,Bob.

Hi Bob
thanks for the reply. There seems to be only one Australian Ham
Forum,
which carries only very little traffic.
Cheers

As the holder of a amateur licence you are permited to program and use the codan or any other radio on amateur frequencys, providing you comply with license conditions
As for the status of the APRS ports check here

Hi Star Bug
thanks for reply. Unfortunately the aprs links of vk2.aprs.net.au pointing to HF
(and Satellite) usage do not exist any more.
Cheers
