Hi, new to forums, not sure if answers to this exist here already, my parents in law have a 2004 Subaru Liberty sedan. Is there anyone towing with one or similar. I am interested to know what type of van people are towing with libertys or forrestors if any? Thanks.

Hey

We have a 04 outback as the wife's runabout and I think the towing capacity is 1450kg braked. But I don't know how comfortable I would be towing with it...since it's only got a smallish engine.

It would be okay with a box trailer or something but not sure of anything much bigger than that. Once you add gear you will reach that very quickly.

But I have never had anything behind it so I could be off the mark

Hi Ian,

I have a 2005 Liberty GT (180 Kw) and wouldn't tow much more than a box trailer with it, irrespective of what Subaru state. I've heard rumours that the Libs have a habit of stretching chassis's when towing too much weight. In fact, I have no intention of ever fitting a tow bar.

Previously, we had a 2005 XS Forester and I wouldn't have contemplated towing much behind it either. More so, because the engine wasn't that powerful (125 kw).

Dont get me wrong, I love Subarus, but as a tow vehicle there are better options out there.

A 6x4 with 500kg of dirt in it would be as much as I'd want to risk - and that would be only only on an occasional basis.

In our case, we have a T/D Prado for towing duties.

Cheers, Matt

G'day Just thought would add my bit ...We have 20006 forester and tow a Sportliner A'Van, (the smallest of the A'Van models) I admit a T/D would tow the biggest A'Van no worries.....Forester is just fine for what I tow and would be fine with anything around 1tonne
