G'day all,

I Intend to build an off road bike trailer to carry 4 bikes a heap of fuel and bike gear. The bikes will be unloaded and the trailer will then be loaded with fuel and dragged off road behind a support vehicle, so it will have to be made strong.
Whilst I have Ideas on how It will be made I have also read about someone building one up on this site some time ago. I have tried searches but It keeps coming up with nothing, I would like to gather as much Info before starting fabrication so any Info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Didn't Mick O build something last year to carry a couple of Arctic Cat quads?

Hi Ingo,

These are the things I would consider.
1. enclosed or not for security/gravel rash for bikes.

2.build it high to clear those rough tracks you want to get to.

3.build it stronger than necessary so you burn those precious hours riding not fixing.

4.water tank for drinking/cooking/showering.

5. 2 X 12 volt pumps 1x for water,1x for fuel.

6. pull out kitchen or BBQ.

7. cheap 12 volt $20 shower.

8. 3rd battery for lights inside and out,and your shower ?stereo solar panel (its Great !)

9.lockable tool box for compressor and tools.

10.lockable box for helmet Armour ,boots ETC.

11.flat floor with relocatable alloy channels . (different bikes ) or to sleep in??

12.Awning for those Veg days wet days working on bikes.

13.roof racks ,we put a basket on ours once.

14.cool spray job LOL!!

Hope this helps as they say collect all thoughts shape it to your needs and do it once do it right .

Cheers.

Its was us Sir kev.

Unfortunately the site path bandwidth is preventing me from uploading images to-night , there is one image of the basic frame upside down in members pics.

I'll try and add some when the comms improves.

Was a lot of fun Ingo , and our design stood up very well thanks to reasonable suspension movement.
I made significant and time consuming error.
That was to fit mudguards early on - the requirements of getting the suspension just right meant I cut the guards off and re-made them, as the spring hanger positions changed.

In the end we achieved our $1000 ex wheels budget, and friends with us had theirs made commercially and they did not work as well.

Thanks Robin,

The design I have in mind is similar however Instead of the one piece drawbar I was thinking of running two lengths of 75mm x 50mm from Treg hitch to the rear...no joins. Then brace the width of the trailer 4 times with 50mm x 50mm.
4 bike ramps will then bolt to the cross beams staggered so handlebars dont get tangled up.
Suspension will be eye to eye leafs but not sure what kind yet and not sure If I will go down the shock absorber rd either.
Looking forward to seeing some pics of your setup!

Cheers
