Blue smoke indicates oil burning.

Have you had the oil pump fix done by Toyota?

just had my 60k service done on my 76 and i mentioned about my oil useage (still) and he said that there is a fix but are short on parts required to do the fix at the moment. he also said to come in every 1500k till i get to 10,000k for a oil level monitor check.

i will check about blue smoke but havnt notice any. but i have had an annoying slight brake vibration issue for some time??

cheers,

Hello Stamps,
What year build is your 76? - I have a 78 (V8 Troopy) Plant built Jan 2008 and have done 43 000 Ks. I don't have an oil problem. At what ks did your oil problem occur? Any info would be appreciated.

Dennis,

got it new in Sep 07 and noticed the oil useage basically from 20k. but what the service desk guy said that the oil level on the dip stick if it's just below the top mark level it should not take much to top up eg 1 ltr. it's the way they designed the level indication of the dip stick i guess to keep the oil level high at all times.

cheers,

Could be worn valve guides - does it also blow a puff of smoke when accelerating after sitting at idle - eg taking off from traffic lights?

I think Peter is on the right track here.

If it only last a second or two as if it was oil just "sitting" somewhere then I would be more inclined to say that it is one or more valve stem oil seal/s.

Did one once on the old Kingswood and easy to fix then but I haven't the faintest how to do yours. We also have exactly the same symptom on our Maxima now. A puff or two only on some mornings (not all) is all we get. Oil loss is negligent and no smoke at any other time. No worries as yet but we just watch it in the mirror.

If its the same as ours then I wouldn't be hitting the bank as yet to get the money to fix it. Just watch the rear view when you start it.

It's a 08/2007 build. It is going in for the 50000k service on Monday arvo. I have mentioned the blue smoke to Toyota so hopefully they will be right on to it. I have only just noticed the blue smoke in the last week or two. I noticed it when I was at that the rear of the car when my wife started it to reverse out of the shed. I am usually driving it so I don't get a chance to see it from behind. I have been getting it serviced every 5000k so haven't noticed a lot of oil consumption betweenservices.

Its the cold weather. Most diesels will do it on start up in cold weather. Nothing to worry about. If its a hot day and it does it then investigate.
