The decision has finally been made - we are "hitting the road" for 12 months minimum - son is renting our house - most things organised (we hope) , and we are off this coming week. Something we have talked about for a very long time, and the time is right now. I will be doing a blog for anyone interested - on a semi regular basis - and hope to get to the
St George gathering late September, so might see some of you there.
see ya travelin'

You will never regret your decision, we up and went in April 09. So far we have only done central and western Qld and right half of SA a total of around 12,500kms. Despite a small accident near
innamincka and the fridge compressor sh$%#ing its self, one puncture and one blown tyre so far so good. We have met some wonderful people in our travels and seen some amazing parts of this big brown land.
We have given ourselves five years to have a look about but will take more if we need to
Good luck and safe travels and we hope to meet you out there some day
Kim and Doug

Good on you Jules. We are in the middle of selling our home and everything in it. Our custom built van will be ready in about 6 weeks and we are going to "where time does not exist" as hubby says. We have no time limit but I know we will be gone for a few years. You guys have a great time out there.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I have past the minimum retirement age and have been dreaming of what you are doing.
Started part time work for awhile to get used to it - but got sucked in this week to work longer and weekend. Next year may be !!!!
I just put an order in today for a caravan after selling the camper so am getting ready :)
The wife wants to do 3-6month trips only -
well wait and see.
Hope you enjoy you new life and all the best,
Richard

Richard,
To keep your wife happy is VERY important.
In order to fall in with her wishes, may I suggest 2 x 6 monthly or 4 x3 monthly trips per year.
That way you are happy and so is she.
( But be prepared to duck!!!)
Disco.
(Said with tongue firmly in cheek, as I am in a similar situation.)

Disco,
I like the concept :)
I will try and convince the wife but if you don't see me again on the
forum - it is your fault :) - I will be out traveling - yeah right.
