Ray
I'm considering buying a one KVA Kipor generator. Do any of you have one and what is the reliability like?
They are selling them in our local Bunnings store and was told by one of Bunning's team members (
shop assistants) that there is a two year warranty with them and that servicing was done by Honda.
Do any of you know if these facts are correct?

Ray, we have had our's for 4 years, and never had a drama. Same plug still in there and when I change the oil I use Magnatec. Loaned it to a mate who has used it to run his cement mixer on site as
well and still goin strong. Not sure what they are worth now but ours was $ 800 when we purchased it back then. I was even considering buying two at the time as the Honda was $1600 at that time.(hence could have had 2 for the price of one.) Dont get me wrong, the Honda is a terrific gennie, it's just that I like trying something different at least once.!
cheers Unc

Ray, I have experience with the 1KVA Kipor. We bought one a bit over 3 years ago as it was more than 40% cheaper than the Honda. Worked
well, but broke down after about 15 months (12 month warranty). Local Kipor repair agent quoted me $700 to repair it. Just $100 less than I paid for it. After a bit of discussion, Primus (importer) repaired it free, which was good of them, though it took a few months for this to happen.
A few months later, while camped fishing up in the Gulf, it broke down again with a different problem.
On our return
home, we bit the bullet and bought a Honda. The Kipor went to
the tip - I wasn't prepared to pass my problem to someone else. Although the Kipor is a lot cheaper than the Honda (though Honda prices have come down), my view is the Honda reputation and 4 year warranty (sometimes 5 years as a special promotion) make it a better buy.
After almost two years of heavy use, the Honda is running perfectly. Starts first pull every time.
That's my experience. The Kipor was a great generator when it worked (though a bit noisier than the Honda). But two major break downs in 18 months was too much. We
camp in pretty remote areas with no service centre nearby, so reliability is important to us.
Do a search on this site and you will find other stories like
mine. Also, you will find some Kipor owners who are happy. In the end, it is your money and your choice.

Went through the same issues two years ago and settled on a 2 kva Kipor.
Has been
well used in the bush, mainly for charging batteries and use around
home when I can't be bothered running extension leads to a small job I need power at. In addition it ran the house fridge comfortably when we had no power recently.
At the end of the day it gets down to how much you want to pay and how much use you intend to give it.
I certainly don't regret my purchase and the money I saved has been
well spent on other items.
