Hy guys

Found a cheap car on the side of the road yesterday, its a 02 vx acclaim with 137k on the clock, asking 6 grand as is.. Father is selling the car for his son.

However, the driver was drunk and drove it thru a fence, its got some rear panel damage and a few marks and bruises. The cosmetics arent too bad, but when I took it for a drive, it has two lights that stay on in the dash, the traction control and the air bag light. Drove well apart from this though.

The traction control switch doesnt go down at all and not sure about the airbags. So the question is, if I get a racv pre purchase inspection or similiar will they be able to determine the severity and whether it can be able to be fixed easily/cheaply or would I have to take it into holden to get them to analyze it on their computer?

Just weighing up if it is worth pursuing it or not.

thanks for listening!

Justin

Hi. Not sure what state you are in but a good local Auto electrician will be able to plug into the diagnostics. The air bag light is usually the clock spring in the bag activator in the sreering wheel. The traction light could be something to do with the switch staying up. Bob.

We have a VX Berlina and the T/C light only comes on when its pushed down.

Has it actually got the airbags still in it.

Perhaps they went off and they just put the cover back.

They are big dollars to replace or fix.

Yes the airbags are an unknown, I guess an racv inspection would tell this owuldnt they? Probably going to cost too much to fix, what do u reckon the airbag would cost if it went off?

Probably not but if the passenger one in the Berlina went off the dash would need replacing as its just behind a thin covering and rips it open.
Not sure about Acclaims.
Dont know Holden prices but $1000 probaly wouldnt be out of the way
Check with Holden

It may have had the bags deploy, replaced them but the airbag module under the conole also needs replacing after a deployment.it could also be the belt tensioners causing it after a"rough ride" so it could be many things-diagnostics will be the only way to find out.

the most common fault for these warning lights to come on is a faulty abs module , fairly easy to replace , fairly expensive to purchase. find a workshop to scan the codes and this will confirm it. it is starting become a more common problem with them. cheers Bruce
