Sorry pressed the wrong button
What I noticed in North America all the coaches and trucks shut down straight away there was no just sitting idling certainly helped both pollution and fuel usage. But in saying that they dont know what a clothes line is every thing goes through a dryer which probably negates the shut down of buses and truck .
Just a thought

PS they had 2 Toyota's which looked very nice an F150/250 size and one a bit larger than our Hi Lux both I beleive would sell well in Aussie.

You need to go back and have a look in the winter, go to a truck stop and you'll find 100s of trucks just above idle all night, why you might ask, if they didn't the driver would be frozen solid , the engine wouldn't start, the diesel wil Gel up, the radiator freeze,

Yep there was a program on TV recently on the ICE ROAD in Alaska.

They NEVER turn the trucks off cos if they do they wont start again.

In one episode one lost its batteries and was in the workshop with a blowtorch on the sump to heat the oil up so they could crank it over.

We're not much better.

We build environmentally friendly (joke) houses and "air condition them". Go figure.

Lip service is cheap.

Looking after the environment costs money.

I've just returned from a trip to the popular spots in Asia like Phuket, Penang and Singapore and a few more and the stink from tourist buses ticking over, no doubt to keep the aircon going, was terrible.
But there's not only air pollution, check out the filth leading into any harbour up there and inside them, check the filth along the roads and waterways.
I know our population is tiny compared to their's, but there doesn't seem to be any attempt even to empty bins in the few places they were provided. Based on what was admittedly a short visit, I'd say our efforts at cleaning up after the pigs that chuck rubbish about are far and away in front of theirs.

Alan, I can't believe that you lumped Singapore in with the others, it is an amazingly clean city, no rubbish in the streets etc, no graffiti/eye pollution, water ways look very clean for such heavy traffic........... Did you actually visit Singapore?

I'm afraid I was a bit jaded by the time we got to Singapora and may be guilty of being over critical by including it. But going through the Singapore Straits the huge amount of flotsam and jetsom was shocking but of course that can be blamed more on the moored ships I suspect than the City.
We seemed to be plowing through this rubbish for a couple of hours.
In the City itself there was still the massive air pollution caused by buses ticking over and for a sufferer of "chronic lung disease" (ex-smoker from long ago) it made me feel seriously sick.
I'll go back again though for a more thorough look at Asia, especially Singapore as my brother lived there for years and loved it so it must be good.
Cheers.
Alan.
