The Sunday Mail. (QLD Newspaper) Had a report of a NSW highway patrol clocking by a speed gun a Kia Carnival mini van at 179 km/h & then accelerated when they gave chase to 198 km/h. All this while using a mobile phone.
I don't know a lot about the Kia Carnival other than they are a 7 seat MPV. All most 200 km/h. ???? in a shopping trolley.A couple of times I have doubted the reality of my recorded speed, as no doubt many others have.
Mike.

Gidday

The top of the range Kia Carnival has a 3.8 litre 184kw V6, thats similar to your Commodore/Falcon/Aurion.

When the NRMA tested one they said: Forget any notion of a slow and steady family van. The big Kia has performance equal to a large family car thanks to the healthy DOHC 3.8 V6. And this translates into strong overtaking and hill climbing ability, although it sounds a little gruff when asked to perform.

So there is no reason why it shouldn't go that fast, particularly unladen and with a bit of a run to get up to speed. Not that i would want to be on board.

No, I don't own one but i was curious too so I did a google

Cheers

Rocco

Most mid size cars will do 200kph, When we go to Germany, we normally get a 2 litre Citroen Diesel, they do 200kph if you have enough time..its a bit hairy though!! Michael

Michael I know what you are talking about.
From Hannover to Munich I got a little A3 sport Audi up to 180kph and was quite happy at that speed but being passed by company reps in diesel Passat's like I was standing still, those euro diesels can really wind up and go.

A run on the autobann is one of the best reasons to go to Europe.

Only got to 185k in a Citroen Grande Picasso before Swambo pulled the pin on me.
The only ones I was passing at that speed were trucks.

There is a big push from some in Germany to limit the speed to 130kph, inline with other European countries.. Most germans are not happy with that thought.. Michael

Colin,
Its a strange feeling when you pass a Police car or van, especially when they are only doing 150kph,,,, Michael

I agree, I first worked in Germany back in 1974-5 and was with VW in Salzgitter, in those days I drove a VW 412 4 door mildly worked over by a local tuning house, and it went a bit faster than the local "Politzi"could go in theirs.

One day driving over to the Wolfsburg Head Office I easily passed a "Bull" as they like to call them, he caught up to me in a service centre near Brunswick and was very interested in what I had done to it as he could not keep up with me on the Autobahn. There was absolutly no question of him booking me he was just interested to know why I left him behind.

Thats wierd to us here in Australia.
Cheers Colin

Colin. Did you have a look at my U tube video, We picked it up with 20 ks on the clock, 3 kms later it was doing 150kph and we ran it in carefully for the first thousand, keeping under 160kph.. If you look carefully it had 6000 ks on the clock, handed it in at 7000ks, 3 weeks later. you can cover some country in Germany at high speed.. Pity all the othe countries are 130, 120kph.. Michael

We got an indicated with photo record (wife took the photo) of a 1.4L Turbo Diesel Pug 206 in Germany doing 180kph - these little cars motor not to mention 48 to 50mpg at an average speed of around 120/130kph (sorry, I am old and prefer mpg)

Not sure if you guys overeast saw this, but that almost leaves the Ferrari that got ticketed recently near Perth a little while ago to shame! Was being driven by a car reviewer from a motoring mag and the police have impounded it under the 'hoon' laws!

We have a Carnival in our fleet. Jumped in it one day thinking it was a korean Tarago sneaked out the gate and planted my foot thinking it was a gutless bus.
Well I nearly had a heat attack(and a need to change the undies lol).Even though it was an auto I had massive wheel spin , tyres squeling, smoke everywhere and I realy only stabbed the throttle. After I had refuelled I walked back into the office, and the general manager looks up and says Enjoy yourself did you. Thank god he has a since of humour, and a bit of a petrol head himself.
These things are the greatest sleepers I have ever come accross, shame they are not rear drivers, might have a chance then to get all that power down.

Just a follow up thought , they really need 4wd to tame the vicous torque steer and overcome frequent loss of traction caused by the fwd.
Fantastic value for money though, about $15000 cheaper then a tarago.
