Psax
Yes I ran out of fuel! 1. How do I bleed the fuel on my RA7 Diesel. Have bled the filter housing and followed the owners manual. IE key on 15secs of 10 secs repeat 5 times. Common rail set up looks a bit confusing. No luck.
2. Where do I get a good workshop manual Engine and chassis?

I always wondered how hard that would be :-). Glad it was not me :-)
So I will watch your post, just in case I forget about the fuel gauge and miss the warning light. Cheers Tony

Theres not a slight hint of sarcasm there tony lmao...I always refill at quarter empty mark in the city..Occasionally its a suprise to see a quick flash of the yellow light ( roundabout's etc)..When your out in the bush with a jerry and tanami pump its not a choir to fill up...

warfer69 - I actually did not mean it that way, but when you read it it was full on sarcasm I must say :-).
My warning light comes on when I still have 20 ltrs left in the tank and thus I can still do another 150ks with ease. But I will never say I will not run out of fuel, because I may have in the past.
Looks like no quick fix for this model though. Cheers Tony

Hi Psax, my mechanic had a similar problem when changing the fuel filter on my RA 2004 TD, had to disconnect the fuel line at the manual
hand pump location & do a lot of line bleeding using the
hand pump, but finally got it going.
Take a look at this post...some useful ideas here...Post # 24489
Good luck, regards
John

I have a RA6 TD Rodeo and have run out of fuel a couple of times.
Always managed to get it started using the
hand pump on the filter.
I have the Holden workshop manual on our RA6 and there is nothing in it to do with bleeding the fuel system.
cheers Drew

I got a earlier rodeo, a few times I have ran out of fuel I'd worked the pump for 1-2 mins and then try and start if not repeat. But once my fuel got waxed after a cold night and Roadside Assist came out and diconnected the return fuel line form the injector pump. Then he hand pumped it till it become came good.
On the number of times I've ran out I now do the above.

I think the issue your having has to do with the common rail side of things...Earlier models have no issues..I topped the brother in laws Rodeo up one day with unleaded..Soon as i realized i did not turn the key..He only had it for about a year from new...We towed it to his place around the corner, pulled the tank out, refilled it with diesel and bingo..

Try removing the fuel filter and filling up as much as you can then reinstall.
Then start engine as per your method.
I own a new common rail Defender which has no method to self prime but I am led to believe this should work.

Don't know about the RA7, but will share what happens with my F250 4.2 diesel.
No bleed system is fitted.
My system is:
1. remove the fuel line into the filter, and crank till i see fuel coming out that hose. Pressurizing the fuel
tank gently with air helps here and on the following steps.
2. refit the fuel-in line to the filter, remove the fuel-out line from the filter.
3. crank till you see fuel flowing thru the filter. re fit the fuel-out line of the filter.
If there is air in the lines to the injectors, the injectors won't "pop" to release that air. The air just pressurizes.
4. crack at least 4 of the 6 fuel pipes to the injectors - just loosen the fuel pipe at the injector, don't remove.
5. crank till you see spurts of fuel from the loosened connection.
6. nip up the pipes.
Should start straight away.
