We have left our van in storage at Darwin and are returning to it soon. As our flight gets in about 2am, we are looking for a place to drive to and bed down for the rest of the night. Not keen on paying for a site when we will only be on it a few hours, and I don't think the others in the park would like us setting up at that time. Does anyone know of somewhere near Darwin that would suit? A truck stop or something similar would be ok.

Thanks Wato35

Its been a while but you could stay at the Shell truck stop at Barrama going out of Darwin or pull over at Adelaide River south of Darwin about 1 hours drive.

Coomalie Creek is 88km south of darwin, 25kn north of Adelaide River and 2km south of the Batchelor turn off. A lot of travellers use the rest area there, or the caravan park adjacent to the rest area. Another rest area is the Hughes Airfield (WWII site) 48km south of Darwin and just off the highway. It's not supposed to be an overniight stay, but at that time of night (morning??) you shouldn't have any dramas stopping there to sleep. Neither are ideal, but are OK for the short stay you are looking for.

If it was me, I would go all the way to Adelaide River, then drive the 3km to Mt Bundy Station, wake Doug T and Dusty up, for coffee and breakfast, then get my head down for some well earned sleep. Doug wouldn't mind the company (: (: (would you Doug???)

In our local news they say the spot to camp is in the suburb of Bayview. Be careful though; if you are caught Darwin City Council is fining campers @ $120.00 a head.

I live about 4km from the airport if you want to pull up out the front of my house / I can leave a power cord hanging on the front fence out the front if you need to hook up power but you would have to park on the front lawn or out on the road as my drive way is fairly full.
Regards Matthew.
