I spent time in Peru and Boliva in 2004. Some roads are just like you see in the video. Many backpackers ride bikes on those roads for a thrill and a
young girl went off the edge and died, which convinced us not to try it! On another note there is a great 4WD trek in the solar (Salt pan lakes) in bolivia. We spent 4 days in the 'outback' in a 60 series that was held together by old inner tubes. The drive had done the 1000klm circuit over 400 times!
Cheers
Dave

I travelled that first road in 1997. We would often get out of the truck and walk in front of it as we felt safer lol. Thankfully we didn't meet anything coming the other way. It's a great country. The drive through the atacama desert in Peru then up over the montains and onto the Bolivian altiplano was one of the most memorable trips of my life. It was -23C at night and the drive down through the mountains to the Uyuni salt flats amazing. Thanks for that. It prompted some great memories.
Cheers Mick

Way back in the late 80's we did the Pan American from Patagonia to Fairbanks...that little road around the mountains in Bolivia is "fun" especially in the rain.
Wouldn't do it now though..too many tourists :)
You are right Tony..fun drive
