G'day

Just heard this on ABC radio news and thought if anyone travelling in the area (or other areas) could take note it might help in this family being found.

....and for those of you travelling who may have limited net access and not wanting to browse further, here's a copy of the message posted on the above site.

"Search for Qld family in outback SA

Posted 2 hours 6 minutes ago

Police from Port Augusta have started searching for a family of four they think could be missing in the Flinders Ranges of outback South Australia.

The husband and wife, both 41, and their boys aged five and six were last seen at Port Augusta on July 2.

The family is from Queensland and was in a blue Nissan Patrol with Queensland registration SGL68.

Relatives and police are concerned for the family's welfare.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police."

Having had to search for a travelling family member two years ago with news of an emergency back home, I know how their rellies are feeling right now.

You'd have to be pretty unlucky to get properly lost in the Flinders...

Apparently they chose not to have any contact with family etc for whatever reasons. So in fact they weren't lost just chose to go 'incommunicado'. Selfish sods !!

G'day

Michael thanks for the update. There was only the one news item that they were missing and nothing stating they've been found. Suppose that doesn't rate highly enough? LOL

Heck, if they didn't want to be in constant contact with family that's their problem, BUT they should have told the family.

Anyway hope someone learns from their experience and tells their loved ones 'if' they will be in touch...or not!! Takes me back to two years ago when I was searching for SIL who was heading into the Simpson for ?3 months!! The 'only' person who knew the itinerary was killed on their second day out so none of us had any idea of their plans.

Hi, This was my brother and his family, They were not missing just out of mobile reception. It was my brothers sister in-law who reported them missing. If she (or the Police) had bothers to contact the rest of the family first before lauching into search mode, it could have all been avoided.

Moral of this story is: Check with all family members before calling the police and reporting people missing.

Bit annoyed with her and police a bit, took 3 days before contacting me to ask if I had heard from them, could have saved them a lot of wasted time!

Brett.

G'day Brett

Pleased your brother and his family are all OK. I was sitting here and heard the ABC radio news and thought with lots of EO members travelling it might help if they knew to keep an eye out for the family as I know what I went through 2 years ago searching for my SIL.

If I can add to your 'moral of the story' comment re checking with 'all' family members before reporting people missing and that is to have at least two family members know your itinerary because in our case this would have made things so much easier.

Good that all ended well and I hope they enjoyed their trip. Inlaws can be strange people sometimes!!
