Hi folks
Just thought I would have my say about 'mega3 mobile" which mean if you have a 3 mobile, some of their models are advertised that they will roam onto the telstra nextg network when they are out of town, giving you enormous coverage. Or so hutchinson 3 would have you believe.
The truth is that they only have access to a small part of Telsta's nextG network.
I recently drove down the Great Northern Highway from
Newman down to
Perth, and in every town I passed through, there was good signal from Telstra and our Telstra mobile worked with full strength.
However, my 3 "mega3 mobile" had
no access in any of the towns. Not till I arrrived in
Perth did I get access on my 3 mobile.
Very poor performance as 3 advertised "access to 96% of the Australian population"
When I complained about it, they offered me a cancellation of my contract, but providing I pay the full cost of the contract before they will release me!!
Regards
Geoff

Thanks for the info mate.
After a trip earlier in the year and seeing how much better my brothers NextG coverage was I was looking at uprading my 5 year old Nokia to a NextG or 3g
The 3 deal looked like a winner, cheaper plans and roaming onto Telstra NextG
Looks like you saved me a future headache

3 has never worked that way even with the 2g roaming
I type this using 3 mobile broadband. For city use you cant beat the deal. $40 pm and free USB stick and 6 gig - for anything else its Telstra

Geoff,
you should call the telecommuncatios ombudsman and tell them about your problem. They have a lot of power and it's amazing how tel companies react when they get a call from that office. Good results do happen. their number is 1800 062 058 and its a free call from fixed phones.

Yep, there's no way Telstra would resell their exclusively 'best' network to other providers unless it was at an exorbitant price.

For it to work you must have a 850mhz capable phone. Not many 4 month plus 3 phones are capable of that.
I have a 6120 and it went anywhere that next G did outside the capital cities from about Mid April. ( I switched to Telstra for Sat phone capability recently)

Contact the telecommunications ombudsman but firstly advise 3 mobile what you intend to do

Well that type of 'phone is advertised by "3" as supporting 850mHz UMTS (with is Telstra NextG).
Given their advertising, I don't know how they would justify your service not working in NextG coverage areas.
Good luck!
