Hi All,
I need some advise on tryes. I am in Alice Springs at the moment on our trip around the block and need some new tyres for my Nissan Patrol.
I got 2 quotes today,
1. Bridgestone AT 265/75/16 $315 each fitted.
2. Goodyear AT 265/75/16 $380 each fitted.
I have never bought any 4wd tryes before so i am not sure which is the better one.
Any advise will be helpful.
Thanks Troy

G'day Troy,

Can't comment on Goodyear but I did have theBridgestone 694LT and they wre a very good AT tyre. Good on gravel, dirt, sand, and especially wet & dry bitumen.

Ev

Hi Troy
Can't comment on the Goodyear but I have Bridgestone 694Lt's in that size on my 100 series since January. We're currently on a 4 month treck up the westcoast of WA to NT and beyond towing a 16ft van. So far the tyres have been very good towing in both wet and dry. Spent a few days doing some tracks around Quobba and Shark Bay and performed well with no issues.

Also had the same tyres on a 80series in passenger construction and last over 60,000kms.

My cars usually do towing and some track and beach work and no heavy offroad work.

Hope it helps

Thank's Robbie,

I have been doing a bit of research this morning, and it doesnt help with all the testimonials on the net.
I think it's a lot like Holen v's Fords.
The price factor also comes in to play.

Thanks for your help,
Troy

Hi Troy,
I've fitted the GoodYear Wrangler SilentArmor tyres about 10,000km ago and are very happy with them . Performs especially well on sand. Relatively quite for an AT tyre. I've found the Tire Rack website a good source for information with reviews by tyre users http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=ORAT

I can't see Coopers mentioned anywhere in the Tire Rack site. I thought they were the ants pants in America.

G'day Anton,

Do you do any towing with these tyres?
I am swaying towards the Wranglers at the moment.

Thank's for your help,
Troy

Hi Troy,

Yes I'm towing a compact off-road caravan - the Conqueror Commander - www.africampers.com.au

The choice of 18" AT tyres within the legal 15mm diameter size increase is limited. The other option considered was General Grabber AT2 - with some good reviews, but it seems to 'balloon' a lot exposing the side walls.

I've used Cooper ST's before on my previous vehicle which had 17" wheels, but the 18" HT type Coopers looks a bit soft to me especially if you are travelling on your own in remote areas.

I'm happy with the SilentArmors and will buy them again.

Regards,
Anton

I cant comment on the tyre choice, but the lovely fella at Tyrepower in Alice
blew the opposition away on BFG A/t prices 2 years ago. Fitted in 15 minutes
too, great service...oldbaz.

Hint.

When they fit them ask them not to tighten the nuts too much. Unless you want to jump on the tyreiron or have a bit of pipe handy if you get a puncture. (heaven forbid)

Any Coopers?

Phil

G'day Phil,

I will ask the boys to do that, i don't want to be doing that. thats for sure.

I asked about Copper's but i am not all that familiar with them, and they were the in the middle of both prices.

I have a few decisions to make,

Thanks for your help,
Troy
