Hi all, need to rectify this fault as its really sluggish when cold.
I have a 1990 80 series TD, all standard.
When first started (when cold) the idle no longer kicks up.
The solenoid works, the vacuum lines are all working but there is no signal to the solenoid. Does anyone no where this signal is fed from,?
it must be a sender of some sort, but all my schematics don't have any of this circuit listed.
If i feed 12 volts to the solenoid, all works as it should.

Might be wrong, I thought the idle up solinoid was for when the air-con kicked in.

water temp switch on thermostat housing one wire goes to temp gauge the other is for idle up(cold start and overheat for a/c)

Usually when the solenoid doesnt work ,it wont start at all ,or you cant shut it down.
The fuel pump has an Advance Cold Start Device (ACSD)attached to the side.
Its supposed to advance the pump and speed up the idle.
It has a lump of wax that is melted by the warming coolant, allowing it to return to its warm position

Thanks for the replies, I have checked the solenoid and you are right, it is the A/C one (which does work),
The idle up on the side of the pump? I just went and looked at that, does it have coolant lines going to it and a spring wound actuator thing on it?
Thanks again
