Hi, I have bought myself a 2003 Viscount Newport. We have used it a few times, it seems great. But I have no idea how to operate the built in battery system. I see an unlabled switch in the boot, I do not know what it does.
When I leave the 240volt power connected to the van the battery charger comes on. Does the 12volt from the towing plug do anything? Ca.n any one help, Thanks

I cannot help other than to suggest you put some photos on here and then you should start receiving some feedback re your specific circumstances. If photos come on too late you may need to post your enquiry again. cheers....

Get a copy of the papers and ring the previous owner would be the surest way to find out.
A mate and I have two identical vans and the battery systems work totally different.
Probably because
mine was owned by a leccy who obviously changed things a bit.

Hi Sparks
We were one of the 30 people ripped off by Viscount in 2003 so I was at the factory 2or 3 times a week so I saw a lot of vans manufactured.
There was a lot of different set up electrically depending on where Gazel was able to get without paying.
The system that I have now has an Anderson plug fitted which goes directly to the battery, there are two switches in the boot the one closest to the door is up for 240v and down for 12v from the car the second one is to turn on the battery to the van.
There should be an inverter in the cupboard under the fridge, this is on when the 240v switch is turned on and off when on 12v.
The battery charger has a seperate switch near the charger, again depending on who they got the charger from..
There were no manuals given to the first owners of vans, if second hand they may have been ones that were ripped off and were sold to dealers interstate.
The chassis no were altered and the complience plate replaced.
Best of luck
Regards
Ted
