What is the largest wheel size one can fit on a Pathfinder R51. will it take a 70 side wall?

Misprint - should be '17' - not '70'

I have fitted 265/75 R16 to my D40 which is the same as the R51. Made the speedo more accurate.

haszev,
it should be 70 if you are talking sidewall profile not 17.
17 is probably your rim diameter.
To fit the 17 inch R51 rim you could go with the 265/70 R17

You have to be very care full when you increase your tyre size, in Qld ( I think most other states are the same) you are only allow to go 15 mm over the size fitted when new other wise your illegal and if you have an accident the your insurance company will not cover you.
I rang my insurance brokers about another matter and the assessor said that their biggest problem when assessing claims was people with over size tyres so keep it in mind. And the chap with 265/75s on his D40 is 25.5 mm over size.
Yes I know it's a pain in the bum
