It did stop working a while ago but still swiched on with the backlight lit but now there is nothing, any idea fellas? got me stumped

Is there a second fuse? What else should i be looking for?

Thanks in advance

They only cost a few bob , So get a new one , better then trying to figure what's wrong, and you will get warranty.

Take it to the "doctor". Sounds like something was failing and it now has broken.

Get it to a shop etc. Is it under warranty. If under warranty the less you touch the better the chance of them honouring the warranty. Start mucking about by opening it up and you may void any warranty.

Not very helpful guys...

Ron, if it is something like a fuse then id be stupid to go and buy a new one without investigating the problem first, im not 'on the road' at the moment so its not that important.

Vk1dx, i think i will take it in to someone who might know what they're talking about as some of the people on here are just out to stir chit, Dion im pointing at you, i ask a simple question and you give a silly answer

Hi Mike ,

I would have just checked the fuse and made sure that all wires are not damaged but if its not still under warranty I would then look inside for anything that is either black as burnt or disconnected ,after that I would then go to the pros as they wont charge you the world to at least determine the fault ,then its up to you if you go ahead with the quote for the repairs ?

Cheers.

Well, Hi Mike,
I guess we'll have to differ on opinions of silly answers.
I gave an answer based on my experience with Unidens, therefore it isn't silly. I have had a few Uniden UHF's, but no longer as their reliability is questionable, no one is interested in repairing them. Also tx and rx leave a lot to be desired. So never ever again.
Uniden UHF (other than hand helds) can be summed up with: "Good work is not cheap and cheap work is not good"

Cheers,
Dion.

rx and tx between two jam tis and a limp piece of string is superior to a Uniden.

G'day Mike GU,

After some of those wonderful responses above, I'm surprised you're not pulling your hair out!!!

Can I ask, how have you got it wired up? I always wire radios up so they are not dependant upon the ignition or accessories being on. That way you can use the radio regardless of the key being in the ignition.

So, if you have it wired up like that, then you need to check that there is power getting to the plug at the back of the radio. I'm assuming here that your radio has a short (about 6") dual cable with a plug that mates-up to a similar fitting that brings the power to the unit.

You need to separate this plug into it's 2 halves and use either a multi meter of test probe light to ensure you have not only a good power supply BUT ALSO a good earth connection. If you check this and there is both + and - at the supply end of the plug, then you can at least be sure it's not the wiring going to the radio.

THEN it might be time to take it to the radio doctor, but check to see if there are any other fuses on the back of the radio first up.

Now, if your radio is only available for use with the ignition set to either accessories or with motor running, then you need to do the above check-up with the key set to the necessary position.

Hope this helps.....

Actually, just thinking back to my Uniden from years ago, I don't think they do have the short tail wires coming out the back, just the plug where the cable connects into.... but no doubt you get the drift.....
