thanx guys and we look forward to your advice .

The motors are not quite the same as experts will tell you.
1 Diifference is the Patrols have variable vane turbos.

Some of all years have had probs just the $ amount that differs.

John,

you'll find everything you need to know and more on the 3L T/D at the Patrol forum. Here is the link....Patrol 4x4.

From what I understand it was pre 2001 3L motors that had some serious problems. I too read a million horror stories on the Patrol forum but I am not going to tell you another one. I own a 2005 Patrol 3L TDI and have found it to be nothing but a smooth, quiet, reliable motor that gets great fuel econemy and has good power for all but really heavy duty towing applications. I do see some folk towing large dual axle vans with the 3L but if I were going to do this I would look at some engine mods or buy a 4.8 Petrol or V8 Land Cruiser. Ive no doubt the 3L will do it but there are others out there that will do it easier.

A lot up till 2003 had problems and even after that if things like MAF sensors werent kept clean and exhaust temps were allowed to climb too high.

After towing the same van with a 3.0 Patrol and then with a TD Cruiser I certainly wont be going back. The Cruiser is quieter by a long shot,
more comfortable to ride in both loaded and not and at least one gear better in the hilly bits.

Your mate must be very thrilled with his new vehicle.

Tell him that the 3 litre Patrol problems were well and truly fixed by 2007, and he has nothing to worry about.

I'm not sure if you mean this with tongue in cheek or that you are for real as I can see a pic of a L/C on your profile LOL!!

Gday John,
I'm serious.
Firstly, I've never heard of a 2007 Patrol trashing its motor.
Secondly, as a mate, you should never put doubt in his mind that he may have spent $40k on a lemon.

Hi again Phil ,
Firstly I'm glad that there has not been a 2007 reported as trashing a donk.
Secondly as a mate I don;t put any doubt in his mind especially when I have no knowledge on the subject, hence the reason we have posted on here to speak to people who do/did own one ,so have you ??

I'm asking a question not having a go at you mate :)

Cheers.
