Warnings to backpackers on Fraser

Hi All,
Found an interesting picture today. A friend just did a 4wd backpacker adventure on Fraser. I saw this pic in her album so I thought I may post it. I think the pic says it all.
Lets hope that it slows them down a bit.

Lets hope so!

My experience has been that they (mostly 20 something europeans) drive like maniacs in overloaded cars. They seem to think that 4WD="magic" and that they are both unstoppable and invulnerable. They only thing they seem to be truly invulnerable to is a bar of soap!

On the news tonight in brissy, they said hire care companies will be force to limit the number of passengers 7 and no luggage to be stored up top. Dont no if camping gear is classed as luggage. This will increase the cost of the hire so maybe numbers will fall. They had to do something as those troopies were so overloaded and unstable.

She had 10 in her truck..........
Nothing has changed, I did my first of 3 backpacker trips around 18 years ago and back then we had 10 people in them. We didn't have anything on the roof either. It was all inside.

If the luggage and camping gear is to be stored inside, then I hope they provide a secure locker for it. Otherwise if one does fall over, the passengers will be bombarded with flying objects of luggage.

Cheers

"It will never happen to me -- im too good a driver" ...... This is unfortunately is the attitude of most people .... Its not till it " Happens" is when they realize it does happen to people - and may actually be them ...

we don't learn from others mistakes... its in our nature

I agree with the whole back packer are not safe at times thing, but let me tell you there are allot of twits out there that are hooning around in there own 4Bs as well ,I almost had a head on with a bloke in a Jeep with his Mrs and kids inside, I tell you now he heard a few things that might have been better kept out of the kids ear range from the bloke behind me, as he saw the whole thing ,but that will happen from time to time on Fraser as well as other popular destinations ,we just have to have our witts about us and try to keep safe.
