This is going to make it harder to identify and dodge the hire cars if they don't have the usual flapping tarp on top.

I agree Lex, maybe they should have a Orange Dune Flag on them so we can give them a wide berth, but it's good to see the recommendations might save lives, and they reckon a third of the hire vehicles inspected didn't pass the inspection, geez over the years I have seen plenty of them broken down up there.

Cheers

One time when we were camping up there a Hire Vehicle pulled up, it was over heated, when it cooled down, we found that the Radiator was nearly empty, there was no visible leaks in it, anyway I topped it up and they went on their way, another time we got flagged down, they had trouble with the Battery, it was empty also.

Last trip I got flagged down by a group of Scandanavians in a hired hilux with a flat. They didn't know where the jack was stored.
I couldn't believe a vehicle with that much rust could hang together.

A few emails to Dept of transport may clean out the operators.

It never hurts to remind the office in Brisbane what is going on in the real world.

I doubt they would think to set up a vehicle inspection at the rainbow barge.

From the article

"It follows a recent Queensland Transport sweep of the hire-drive industry from Fraser Island to Rainbow Beach, in which more than a third of vehicles checked were taken off the road."

I was wrong on this one :-)
