Hi,

Has anyone seen the new Conquerer Off Road Camper from South Africa

See Conquerer Camper for more info.

Had a look at one today in Newcastle. They were apparently made initially for the South African Defence Force, hence they have a very military look, but the seem to be a very good unit.

I was quoted $41500 on road and that includes everything, 2 xjerry cans, axe and shovel holder with axe and shovel included, 200 litres of water, hot water system, shower, shower enclosure, fridge/freezer etc etc etc.

I was just wondering if anyone has one and if so, what experience have they had with it

Cheers,

Cruiser

Did a trip to the Northern Simpson and a person traveling with us had one, they look good but there was a few things I didn't like.

Went everywhere our Ultimate did with little hassle, ground clearance could be better.

There are many others I think I would look at before one of them for the money, you could buy a second hand Tvan, Ultimate or Kimberly.

Cruiser.

I had the chance to look at one over the period of a recent trip.
Very well made, but would not suit me.
I liked the light weight and the thought that has gone into the Conquerer.

looking a their web site, they seem complicated and time consuming to set up. One of them shows 4 people setting it up. Interesting looking "beast" none the less.

Fred,

I saw the video you are talking about, but rest assured, you don't need 4 people to set it up.

The roof is very much like a pop top roof only it is fixed at one end and at the front there is an expanda style bed. Once these are opened its just a matter of whether you want to put the tropical roof over the bed out and as for the awning over the kitchen are, it really could be done by 2 people.

I would say that its probably take 2 people a maximum of 15 minutes to fully set up.

Will be having another look at it at the Wauchope 4WD/Caravan/Camping Show over the weekend after next.

Cheers,

Cruiser

Cruiser is quite correct that the set-up is a simple operation - in fact I have a Conqueror Commander and can comfortably set it up by myself for an overnight stop in 15 minutes. If you wanted to erect the full tent and side walls for the en-suite and awning then it would take longer. If we are with others and just stop, we normally use a shower screen in place of the full en-suite. We also don't fit the draft sheet and sidewalls for the awning, but even these are simple to attach to the awning which is stored with it's poles on the external 'sleeve' to the top of the caravan.

Donks1,

Compared to the Kimberely, Camp O Matic and the Ultimate models with similar inclusions, I think the price is reasonable.

I am not in the market for any of these, BUT, if I was then I think this one would have to be worth while considering.
