Vehicle Modification Petition.

Gday All.

There have been a few posts lately regarding the new laws on vehicle modifications. I found this petition on another forum and thought some would like to voice their concerns on the matter.Site Link

It might be worth filling out.

I would prefer one directed at the 4WD aspects.

Anyone know of one?

Hi Mark
Interesting statement from the petition organisers, it makes sense, there will be a lot of people effected, whether it will be Businesses or Vehicle Owners, they should have some input into it, the other thing it will create unemployment in that industry re manufacturers and installers ect.

Cheers

I recall that years ago that all bumper bars on vehicles were to be the same height from the ground but bumper bars on most cars have been replaced with those plastic thingies. The first car that I owned the bumper bars were made of spring steel.
I personally have never seen the need to raise or lower a vehicles suspension but I cannot see anything wrong with raising a vehicle 50mm but above that a definite no no. As for lowering the suspension, what does it achieve.
I personally have an 80ser L/C that is fitted with air bags on the rear for when I have my caravan on.

On the subject of lowering cars.

Once upon a time it was illegal to lower cars.

How come it is legal now?

Don't know that it is. The first thing plod goes for when they have a blitz is ride height. Lots of doof doofs get ticketed for that.

In terms of VSI50 it is important that we all make our views known and a petition, properly worded, might just help the government understand that the recreational 4WD community is a large group made up of generally responsible people of all ages and demographics. And many will welcome the link Mark has kindly provided.

Unfortunately to some degree, this is a case of lobbying after the horse has bolted.

Importantly, the bigger picture also needs to be addressed, and that is the point I have tried to make in two threads with respect of VSI50 and Bull bars. The recreational 4WD community is represented by various organisations with one of the peak bodies being ANFWDC.

There seems to have been some break-down in the communication between our representative Associations, the government, and its agencies on VSI50; why has it been the case that this new ruling has come into effect with little consideration being given to the recreational 4WD Drivers? Secondly, why haven’t we seen anything in the mainstream media from our representative bodies highlighting the inadequacies of VSI50?

We need some traction on these questions because if we don’t get strong representation from our Associations we will be run over (yep pun intended) by the anti-4WD lobby that appear to be able to make an anti-4WD case that resonates with our policy makers…..

Cheers…

Landy i'm not so sure of a break down between assosiations and the RTA, I think the break down is between the RTA (coal-face level) & state Govt. and their knee jerk reactions and ill thought out action (VSI50) to a coroners request to look into this subject.

4WD NSW & ACT is in communication and has been since last week when this all came to light. Greg Redfern (Pres) is a man that has already done wonders in getting Memorandums of understanding in place between Nat.Parks, Bush fire brigades & 4WD clubs allowing us back onto a few tracks that we had access closed before.

His attention is now focused on this very subject, he is the cool and level head that we need right now and I for one am glad he IS on the job on our behalf.
Follow the progress via the 4WD NSW & ACT web site under News.
Cheers, Colin.

Hi Colin

I have sent a note to Greg Redfern and I understand and personally appreciate the work the organisation and its people do to advance the interests of the 4WD recreational community. And it is pleasing to see the successes they have had to date on our behalf...

What does concern me is a Government Minister has chosen to ignore, for whatever reason, the stakeholders on the matter of VSI50, and it would be remiss not to ask ourselves why this was the case and what more can we do to foster relations with him to avoid this in the future. Hopefully this is happening and this Minister’s reticence on this occasion is a one-off and not a sign of things to come.

It would be good to see some countenance to this directive in the mainstream media, backed up by concrete data of why it isn’t good policy. Since the release of VSI50 forums and discussion boards have been full of reasons why this policy needs to be modified, but these discussions need to be aired in the mainstream media and this can only be done effectively by our peak representative Associations… Hopefully this has happened and I have simply missed it.

Importantly, we need recreational 4WD drivers to join a club or Association because it will only be through strength of numbers, and a strong representative Association, that we will be able to promote and protect the interests of recreational 4WD activities. Hopefully VSI50 is a wake-up call to remind us that not everyone shares our passion for recreational 4WD actiiviities!

Cheers
Baz
