My PVC
water tank has some
water in it from last trip - 3 months ago ..not full !
I've read the threads on using Baking Soda and other things to clean and flush ..
The
water tastes OK - Would it still be advisable to clean , drain and flush before
heading off ?
Cheers
Steve

Yes
At least drain and flush. It won't hurt. If you have an excellent memory like
mine (Ha) you may never know where the
water that is in the
tank came from. Don't want "Bali tummy" now do you.
We always flush out all
drinking water containers the night before a trip as a must do.
What do the makers say about cleaning? Do they mention anything special?
Just my two bobs worth.

No harm in doing it Steve. ;)
A good flush using bicarb (to loosen any buildup) before your trip is cheap and gives your
water a good start. Dependant on locations, reticulated
water has residual chlorine in it to kill any organics/nasties so should be of no concern.
Water may become a problem when not used and left stagnant.
Enjoy your trip :(

Following on I had the dreaded TAINT problem and found an easy way to fix it.
1st drained the
tank and then refilled to brim and added about 150ml of pool chlorine (bleach). Let it stand for a week then emptied the
tank and flushed about 3 times. Then I refilled and added BICARB (1/2 packet) and let it sit for a few days then drained again.
Left it dry until I need to go
camping and did a quick flush before refilling for the trip.
The
water was pristine this time and NO CHEMICAL OR TAINT PROBLEMS....so I now empty my
tank dry when I get back home and never had a problem since. Also use potable
water hose and NOT THE GARDEN HOSE...
Grrr!!!

One plastic
tank supplier suggests using
Milton, the baby bottle/teat cleaner. You can get it in liquid or easier to carry tablets.

Mal
We recently bought a camper trailer with a 65 ltr
tank. i was going to use nappysan to clean the
tank, my wife was not impress. She agrees with you. I used
Milton and we have used the
tank twice and have had no problems.

Nappysan is just bleach if I can remember from my nappy washing days.
Should be fine used
well diluted but a lot of rinsing after will be needed.
Re Miltons, someone posted here that it has to be in contact with all the
tank surfaces to work properly.
