Hi all, I have used search to try and find the answer I seek but I can't find it after an hour of reading threads. I also sent a query to Hema but no response yet.

I have purchased OZI-Explorer and I am trying to configure it to run with my Hema Navigator. The problem is that the Hema Navigator does not appear as an option for GPS type and model and I can't get it working together. I tried Garmin Nuvi but no good. I reckon more than a few people here will have solved this problems and if so, can you please help me out with some advice. It will be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Rob G

I thought the Hema Navigator had OziExplorer installed as a basic function..

I am not 100% sure, but I think you will find that the Hema nav is a stand alone unit. You can send files to and from it via the PC connection as an exteral drive only. It cannot be used for mobile navigaion on the PC etc.

No doubt some one will correct me if I am wrong.

Rob,
If you are trying to run the PC Version of OziExplorer using the HEMA Navigator as your GPS engine, then afraid your in for some bad luck.
The HEMA device does not output NMEA data, so it will not run Moving Maps [real time tracking] in OziExplorer.

Cheers

Rob, I think you will find it runs OziCE just as PDAs to. It doesn't output the signal directly, just to the onboard computer. It will probably be a hand held computer with a cut down version of Windows Mobile v5 .

If it comes with OziCE onboard, and you have bought a computer version, it will help you with the interchange of maps between the two. The Hema system is a standalone, not to be connected for data transfer apart from transfer of maps and software updates.

Rob, have you seen the GPSOZ Free forums ? If you step back further in the menu at the top, go through several of their products.

Thanks Guys for all the replies so far. Just to make it a little clearer, what I am actually trying to do is to set up routes and waypoints etc on my computer in ozi-explorer and then transfer them to the Hema Navigator. Likewise, after I've been out and about and collected a heap of waypoints in the field, I'd like to transfer that data back to my computer into Ozi-explorer. The unit does come with oziexplorer but its easier to work with trip planning on a computer so I also bought the oziexplorer software separately. The tricky bit is that when you set up the ozi-explorer software, there is a screen in the configuration set up that prompts you to select the gps type and model and the hema Navigators is not an option. Without the configuration set up properly, the software and GPS don't talk to each other.

I'll check out GPS oz, thanks. If I solve the dilemna I'll post it up for others.

Cheers
Rob

Robert - there is no facility for direct communication between the HN (ie OziExplorerCE) and OziExplorer on the PC when connected except via normal windows explorer. Once you have created waypoints/routes on the PC and saved them you must use windows explorer to locate the files you have created on the PC and copy/paste to the relevant folder on the HN (I assume the SD card - OziExplorer Data folder is probably the default).

Its the same for most, if not all, Windows Mobile devices so its not a shortcoming of the HN. Most devices operate as an external memory device these days so even if there was a specific icon/button in OziExplorer theres every chance it would just open up windows explorer anyway.

I have an unlocked Mio running OziCE. I just take out the SD card and transfer data via a card reader using windows when I need to move stuff - easy enough and same end result. This method is probably better than having dedicated icon in Ozi as you have complete control over where you place data (ie what folder etc).

Cheers

Wouldn't you just save the data to an SD card on the PC then put the card in the Hema and open the files in Ozi on the Hema?? Other way round to get data back to the PC??
