This is a quick heads up for those members who don't read the Members Newsletter.

I see there is currently 3 members who have entered photos.

"In preparation for the 2009 National Members' Gathering (see St George Members Gathering) we are very pleased to announce a special opportunity for all Members, whether attending or not, to be involved.

ExplorOz.com, in conjunction with the generous support of Business Member Canvas Charisma, and Personal Member - extfilm (NSW), are producing a unique piece of ExplorOz Memorabilia to be raffled off at the National Gathering in September. All funds raised through the raffle of this ExplorOz Memorabilia Photo Print will be donated towards the St George Scout Group. All members are invited to participate in the creation of this photo print by submitting their favourite trip photo to a competition to find the best photos that illustrate "ExplorOz". It could be an outback scene, a driving scene, a beautiful sunset, native fauna/flora, or any photograph that you feel best illustrates "ExplorOz". The competition will enable us to select 3 of the best photos to be assembled with ExplorOz branding on a custom canvas art print produced by Canvas Charisma and ready to hang at a size of 457mm x 914mm.

This is a Members only competition. To enter, you must create a Blog entry and upload a photo. Only one blog per member will be accepted however you may upload as many photos as you wish to your blog (you may change/edit your entry as often as you wish until the closing date). Only Blog entries saved to the "Photo Comp" tag will be judged as valid entries. The winning photos will be judged to be the best photographic representation of "ExplorOz" and must be of high resolution. You must be the owner/photographer of the photo you submit. This competition is open now and closes at 4pm WST Friday 14th August, 2009.

Not only will the winning 3 have their photo featured on this memorabilia, they'll also win prizes! The member who submits the winning photo, chosen to be the main feature of the memorabilia canvas print, will also receive a professional enlargement of their photo (printed onto a white matt board with foam core backing approx 400mm by 500mm) ready to frame. This winning prize has been donated by Member - extfilm (NSW). The 2 runner-ups will each receive an ExporOz merchandise/clothing pack."

Cheers Kev

I will also add, that Peter (extfilm) and Brian are both unable to attend the gathering.

They along with a growing list of other who are unable to attend have donated time, money and resources for the fundraising effort of the gathering.

I have been trying to keep a list of those not attending that have donated items etc and will make sure that it is mentioned in the post trip report.

Cheers Kev

"must be of high resolution"

Which is? Can I assume my photos taken on my pocket-digital won't be good enough at 230dpi 1632x1232 pixels? What about 230dpi 2032x1354 pixels?

Hi Timbo,

Without going into all of the technical side about PPI, DPI, resolution etc I think the safest rule of thumb is that if you have an image taken on a camera set at 4 megapixels or greater, then the image should be fine for what we are doing.

I hope this helps clear things up for you.

Cheers

Brian

Thanks for reply Brian,

The trouble is, my first digital camera was only 2MP (cost a whopping $500 back then!!). Pity, because I reckon some of the best pics I've ever taken. That camera died and was replaced with a 3MP (under an extended warranty) but I fear that the photos taken on either of these cameras will not be high enough resolution for your requirements.

If they aren't good enough, all is not lost - I borrowed a 5MP camera for my last trip to the Kimberley and there are still some pics I could submit from that trip.

Ha, on the bright side, at least it will help me to narrow the selection from the 22 images I've posted!

Please can you confirm the 2MP and 3MP images are too low resolution (I can send you a full resolution image from each if it helps)?

Cheers,
Timbo

Don't forget that it is only ONE BLOG per Member.

I noticed that some people have created multiple Blogs as entries for the Comp.

You will need to Edit your 1st entry and add the other photos onto that one for it to be eligible to be judged. Multiple photo's in the 1 blog is acceptable.

Cheers Kev

P.S

I am not judging it either LOL
