I have seen many
forum statements about Supercheap products and claims, and have often taken them as throw away comments lacking in fact.
However, the latest catalogue has an electric winch, in which the text claims is "ideal for 4WD recovery"
At $127, the price is simply magnificant, but only looks good if your 4WD is suitable for a 680kg working limit with a 4mm cable length of 7.6m long .
Makes you wonder if a decent 4WD would need eight or ten of these
winches mounted on the bullbar, or would one be OK with the cable through 7 snatch blocks and a total pull of 900mm.
Makes the Aldi ones look good.
Cheers

The worst part of this is that they also sell a 2500 lb which appears to have exactly the same motor , drum and housing cable etc .. but it is rated 500 lbs lighter - go figure ?

I have 2 x 2,000 lb
winches very similar to the one you have linked to. I replaced the steel cable with super rope on both to make them lighter and easier to use. One is used on the roof rack / boat loader to load / unload the boat. The other is used on a home made fold up 'crane' to move the outboard from the boat to the carry bracket on the van draw bar and back.
For those purposes, these are great
winches and they come with remote control.
Mine were marketed as ATV
winches (quad bike).
As everybody has identified, for 4WD recovery, they are entirely inadequate and unsafe. They should never be marketed for that purpose. But when applied to the right task, they are great and excellent value.

"ideal for 4WD recovery" is sales speak for "welcome sucker" :-)
680kg working limit is hardly enough to get the thing pulling a 4x4 on flat ground. These vehicles way >2000kg. Now you put it in a bog hole, or winch uphill and the rolling resistance has suddenly quadrupled (or even more if your bogged down to the chassis). That is why we have 6000kg
winches and even then may have to use (multiple) snatch blocks to get the vehicle out.
680kg winch with that size cable is IMHO designed for boat loaders, etc. Light stuff not recovering 4WD.

"Ideal for 4WD ride-on mower recovery" would sound more realistic!

going on the level of knowledge displayed by most supercheap staff I have engaged they would think anything with 4
wheels is a 4wd. I am waiting the day to be served by someone at supercheap old eneough to hold amotor vehicle drivers licence.
cheers
