Just remember they are going to fit wheels on the ferry bottoms, so that the ferry can continue after the Victorians and NSWelshmen have pinched all our
water!!
The ferry can be busy at times, but there's not normally a long wait (just minutes, except on long weekends etc)

Chris,
They haven't thought that one through have they?
I think the sludge at the bottom of the Murray is metres thick.
A ride on a car ferry is always good fun!

Just to say that I've done it; one day I'd like to drive from one end of the Murray (in SA) at
Renmark, down to
Narrung and weave back and
forth so that I have to cross the Murray at every bridge and ferry available....... ONE DAY! hehehe

Wellington SA is a nice spot with a good little cafe on the western side in the old courthouse. There are some interesting historic photos in the courthouse showing the old hand drawn ferry from the 1880's. You can still see some of the old fittings on the riverbank! The road through here was the main access to the South East of SA,
Melbourne and Victorian Goldfields from
Adelaide for many years. The locals tell me that the river is very deep in some spots around the ferry site. A good number of locals live on the eastern side and have to cross on the ferry to
shop locally. The pub does good meals and is very popular in summer. The ferry crossing can be a good bird watching spot with plenty of little fairy wrens about. It is a shame that the river has dropped a couple of metres and drained the
billabong and the small marina. The proposed temporary weir is a few kilometres downstream. We still don't know if it will be built.
