I am looking at buying another fridge for our camper trailer and was wondering if anyone has has any feedback on the new ARB fridge freezer 47 lt. I have an Engle 40lt in the car and am very happy with that but have been told that the new ARB is just as good if not better.
Regards
Reb

Hi Reb
If you buy the mag 4wdaction number 136 they just did a mega fridge comparo (so called torture test of 1/2 dozen fridges etc including the new ARB).Hav a look at that, not that i agree with all there recommends but its worth a read...
One bloke complained about the new ARB did not stand up to the public looking at it in an ARB store i think.Make your own conclusions about it (cannot think of the name when they hav products on show, too late lol)
Cheers

So far, fingers crossed, an awesome product, I have two ARB fridge/freezer's and could not be happier with them. I got them earlier this year and so far they have travelled to Fraser for a week, Double Island for a week, and spent 3 weeks being knocked around in central Australia, including the Old Strez, Ood and Plenty Hwy. They spend their time tied down in the back of the Hilux. ( with a canvas canopy )
At Fraser and Double Island one operated as a fridge and one as a Freezer, and on the bigger trip both were fridges.
To give you an idea on power draw, on average 2nd battery was around mid 12.8's after the days drive and then the next morning it averaged around 12.05. We had two rest days without any driving and on these days we did need to charge the 2nd battery with the Honda around late afternoon.
The only thing that I have no idea on is how will they be going in the years to come, that will be the test as to how they stand up against the Engel.
Cheers

Current Draw: 0.87 amphour*
*Power consumption tested at 3°C cabinet temperature, 26°C-31°C ambient temperature range, test duration of 66 hours and supply voltage of 12V DC
It's all 'plastic' ( or more politically correct, not metal ) cabinet may be a possible weakness ?

It says in the Mag(4wd Action) that the body is powder coated zinc steel with a plastic lid.

Hi Reg
Stick with the one you know. Get yourself another Engel. With over 40 years of trusted service, you can not go wrong.
Cheers

You need to get a copy of last month's 4WD Action, the test is most comprehensive. All fridges tested were OK but differences were there and could appeal or not depending on your own requirement. The new ARB certainly appears a good piece of kit and time will tell for sure.
