Where can I get a strong mirror in this shape / set-up ?

I am looking for a stong set of external rear mirrors in the same style as the picture here. The last two were Brymac, but one of them busted of in the leg on corrugations, so I guess that rules them out.

They are on the roo bar which vibrates a lot, so they have to be bloody strong.

Any ideas about a brand or model ?

Thanks,

Willie.

Mr Guts,
Thanks, but I am not after a van towing set-up, just the mirrors as per the photo.

Check this website and see the mirror at the bottom,

MIRRORS

I seen a Troopy recently that had a great set of mirrors, they had 2 suction cups againts the door and was very stable, don't know the brand but if you want to email him and ask him , his name is Norm, tell him Doug sent you,

Thanks Doug, but I don't want suction cups, I need a design like I have shown in the photo.

Go to a wrecker and get some mirrors from a 70 series Landcruiser. There should be plenty available. Make sure they have the bolt in the support arm so you don't have to go hunting, although it's a common thread.

Is it the same design as in my photo - with the centre pole support underneath ?
Thanks,
Willie.

Willie, here is a photo of some 70 Series mirrors:

Ignore the bracket, that's something I made up. You can see that the mirror is identical to what you want.

There sems to be some confusion about what I am after

I do not want your typical suction cap options, I want a mirror like in the photo, which has a centre support that bolts on to a small flat section (with a hole in) it on the end of my extending arm.

I already have the extending arm, I just need the mirror to sit on it.

Thanks,

Willie.

Hi Richard,

I know what that is, cos I have the Britax page open right now.
(1441122 Heads Universal Mirror head).

It is interesting that the Britax, the Camac and the Toyota mirrors all look like they are made by the same factory ( but Graham H says that the Camac has three screws not two like the Britax, so maybe it is different / better ?).

It is a Britax that I have already broken, so I was hoping to get something more robust than what they offer.

Anybody got any other leads ?

Thanks,

Willie.

I have this type from Camac and I'm sure they only have to screws I will check them out over the weekend the Van is at my country estate..

I had the ones that clipped on to the Mirror and even with the stays on they move even when a car past.

you may what to try the Britax European Heads, I used to use these type when we sole Champion Graders

Richard,

I have been right thru the Britax catalogues and I can only find the one which you pictured (same as the Toyota ).

Yes, please look at the Camac whilst at the manor house this weekend.

Thanks,

Willie.

There right the Camac does have 3 screws but smaller the the two in the Britax ones.

But I don,t think it will last any longer them what your got. They move about a lot on dirt roads sometimes so much so you can't see anything in them. I have the Britax ones on my Hilux work ute and they are OK never move unless someone bumps into them..

Good Luck

Richard

Willie

what I meant by the other mirrors, was that if the mount is the problem? You could get a shaft made up with a thread to mount it to the silver frame and the mirror could clamp to the shaft.

Regards

Richard

Yes Richard, that is a possibility I had not considered. Is the mounting system pictured in your photo a stronger deal than in the first photo you posted above ? It is hard to tell here.
Thanks,
Willie.

PS
I had better haul my butt down to a Camac stockist and have a good look, as it does not appear there is anything better on the market.

Yes Willie

I believe they will be stronger as they clamp onto the mount not just to hold it to the mount but to hold it in position,, some what like the newer driving lights.

Hiya mate
I was over at the Camec shop at Ingleburn yesterday. They seemed to have a good array of mirrors (and everything caravan)..
I was getting another item, and the staff were very helpful and informative.
They are right at the Northern end of Williamson Road.
Cheers

The mirrors pictured are sold by TOYOTA and are made by Britax

The Toyota part number is OEA-221 and they are $69 each

I bought a pair in Pt Hedland to replace my Aussie truck mirrors which were starting to shake too much.

Actually the new ones are easier to see behind with BUT THEY SHAKE JUST AS MUCH

Also they have only two adjusting screws whereas the Camec bought set have 3.

I wouldnt say they were better and feel I wasted my money.
