I am seeking opinions on what is best to do. I have a 80 series LC that is quite often parked in the garage for weeks on end as we don't need to use it except for trips. The cranking battery runs down so I now have a smart charger to keep the battery charged so as to not shorten its life. Should I disconnect the negative lead from the battery or is it ok to charge with the battery fully connected?.
Thanks

Hi,
If you have a smart charger just connect it up and leave it.
The charger only does what your alternator does voltage wise so it's not going to harm anything.

Hi Geoff
I gather that would also be okay for a dual battery system. No isolation between them. Series 100 TD Toyota with factory dual batteries.
Am I correct?

Hi WBS
No need to disconnect the battery/s make sure the charger floats at no more than 13.8V
Keep the electrolyte topped up if they are not M/free.
Do a weekly inspection if possible.

battery shouldnt be going flat (depending on your definition of weeks)
I would
park mine up for a fortnight at a time and never had an issue starting it
now it only sits for 8 days between starts
