Hi all,
My Brother has just bought his 1st 4WD its a brand new Mazda BT 50 Turbo Diesel SDX I think its a 3 ltr ,he wants to know if it has any pit falls that he should know about ,as I have had Zero experience with a Mazda ..Um except the old 1991 mod E200 Van I once owned,I know it don't count LOL! He bought it mainly for busness use and it will be towing around a box trailer during the week ,but I would like to take him onto Stockton Beach and up around Barrington tops and the Blue mountains so if there's any mods needed he would rather know now ,we look forward to any comments .

Cheers.

Hi John, I have a 2007 high body 4x2 3 Litre version & it is a manual. There are some clutch issues which I have experienced ( see thread 70939 ) & I have read on the Mazda forum that some owners of manuals are experiencing them jumping out of 5th.
Apart from that, we are very happy with ours. The Clutch issue we had & a few minor things were addressed by Mazda here at Cardiff very quickly & without hassle. We are impressed with our vehicle & the Mazda Service. Cheers

We tow an 18 foot pop top which by the time my wife finishes loading it with stuff we "dont need" would weight about 1800 Kg. The vehicle is just on two years old & has done 30000 Ks. Somewhere about 7000 of those Ks are towing.
The clutch failure was caused by a mechanical problem within the clutch mechanism & was not related to towing.
Its a twin cab & we are happy with it. My only regret is that I did not buy an Auto because my wife has a crook leg. She can drive manuals, but because of her leg is not happy behind the wheel. But then again, they ( wives ) are never happy are they? Hoo Roo

Talk to a few mechanics. One of out fleet Couriers done the head at 112000ks. When I was talking to the mechanic I expressed surprise it would happen at that low a mileage. He replied it was common with Couriers/ Mazdas tds.
Cheers Pete

Few of the early BT50's suffered a seized camshaft that required an engine transplant. Haven't heard of many lately.

We have 4 BT-50's at work, one of which is mine. Of the 4, 3 have stuffed their gearboxes with one now on its third gearbox! They all have lost fifth gear and have had the gearbox replaced under warranty.
This has all happened in the last 12 months.

We have Colorado's, Hiluxes and Rangers at work as well as the BT-50's. The Mazda is by far the worst of them all.

The Colorado is the pick of the lot. They haven't given us any trouble at all.
One of the two Hilux's has clutch problems. The Ranger seems poorly finished.
I hate the BT-50 I have to drive.

I own a Triton and would pick it over all of them, although I could live with owning a Colorado.
