Is there any way to tell the kva of a generator?

There should be a nameplate much like the one on your car somewhere on the generator, alternately, some have the rating stamped into the casting body of the unit.

Barring having the info from the nameplate or the manual thats a good question.
If you know the power output in watts then you could for a ballpark figure multiply the power by .8 or .9 for a ballpark number.
eg 2000Watts
equals
2000 * .8 = 1600kVA
If you know the power factor figure all the better!!
This example is what a honda 2.0ei gives basically.

Make tha VA not kVA.
Would be 1.6kVA

2000 VA = 1600 watts (if PF - 0.8)
Watts is real or heating power
