I have not been to Manangoora, but know a number of people who have. My current neighbour (
camp neighbour, that is), arrived from there a couple of days ago.
Manangoora is an old cattle station that has been returned to aboriginal hands under native title. I think the current charge is $200, regardless of how long you
camp. There are no facilities. You need to go to
Borroloola for
water, fuel and supplies. Having said all that, there are apparently some good
camp sites and although fishing was reported to be slow early in the season, the barra have been on the bite a lot better more recently.
King Ash Bay still has a pretty big crowd in, but it is starting to thin. A lot of the long term campers who come up to escape the southern cold are starting to leave. A lot of them will be gone by the end of August. The people who come in after that are mostly the more serious fishing groups as the weather warms.
By the end of September, the numbers here will have thinned a lot. But the fishing (particularly barra) should be a lot better. It is a bit dusty here at the moment as there has not been a drop of rain since March.
KAB has more facilities. Fuel, a small
supermarket,
water, etc. There is also a club with a bar 'Bistro' that is open each night. Power available if needed, but we '
bush camp' in the unpowered area on the bank of the river.
This is a link to a
Fishing Report that I posted here about 3 weeks back.
Last trip out I got this nice 48cm Jack
