Doing a Simpson trip in 2 weeks and wondered if it’s worth packing a rod for the Eyre creek as we plan to camp there and what fish can you expect to find. Any other info would be great.

Regards David

Was there a couple of weeks ago and plenty of water then with Eyre creek still flowing. Took a couple of telescopic rods but didnt get a chance to use them. I think yellowbelly or golden perch would be what youd be after but there may be others....

David, Ian and I were wandering around there about two weeks ago looking at our old haunts and noticed plenty of yabbie holes in the banks of the creek and were kicking ourselves we didn't take a couple of lines with us to try - should be plenty of yellow belly there for the taking (in the creek proper not the outer channells). We use yabbies for bait out there so take an opera house net as well to catch them. Good fishing - the camp spots are beautiful on the banks of the creek proper, at the moment.
