Hi all (but especially Phil B thread 71130)
I haven't had much chance to check out the
forum this weekend so tonight I spent some time reading back through some of the older posts. A mate of
mine and I together with respective spouses travelled down the CSR in 1998 and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The piece of info that caught my eye was the bit about the guy in the Rangie with the tandem trailer and 3 200 litre drums of fuel. We were at the top end of the CSR at one of the wells that had been recently restored (I think around 46) and had just finished the evening meal and were sitting around the
camp fire having a drink and talking. Just before dark we saw a set of vehicle headlights coming up the track and soon a Rangie with a tandem trailer, some other gear and 3 200 litre fuel drums pulled up. The driver left the vehicle and passengers some distance away and came over for a chat. Seems they had cut across from the Alice and joined the CSR some distance south. When asked how the Rangie was handling the job of hauling this load over the dunes he assured us it was going fine and he was the advance guard for two other vehicles in convoy. It made us feel that we may not have as hard a trip as we had first thought.
I guess what struck me was the coincidence of what we saw 10 years ago.
Cheers Pop

When I first read about the Rangie, I thought someone had taken my jokes seriously about them needing to tow their own petrol tanker out of built-up areas.

What about Dung Beetles rolling a lump of Camel dung, yes you might think think it's odd but I seen it in the Simpson, and the way they did it is what amazed me,about 4 to 5 abreast would start rolling the dung . then the ones at the rear would climb up over the backs of the 1st lot and take over putting the 1st lot at the rear then they would do the same and so on,

Here's a different mode of accomodation I saw at
Kunawarritji last year. It was driven by a couple who I would say were
well into their seventies.
Don't worry about towing a CT. Just chuck it on the back of the ute...

They accessed the door by way of a small aluminium set of steps.
